Improving Student Progress

Patty Ladd:  If the progress made is not to your satisfaction, I strongly suggest that you and your child discuss the questions that follow.  These questions are ONLY intended to provide support to both parents and their children.  I truly believe that it's more challenging than ever to keep our children focused on their responsibilities.  Technology is a huge competing factor, and our kids need us to set boundaries on the use of cell phones, texting, and "surfing the web."  All of these activities take away precious time and energy that teens could use toward strengthening their academic progress.

·          What appear to be the obstacles getting in the way of success?

·          How frequently is your child attending before or after school tutoring sessions?

·          Is your child using the school's planner effectively?  (Ask to see the planner.)

·          Does your child have a "study buddy?"

·          How many hours/week, Sunday - Friday, does your child watch T.V. or play video games?

·          How many hours/week, does your child read?  (Newspapers count.)

·          Have you (parent) contacted your child's teachers?

·          Are you using Parent Connect to track homework assignments and progress?
