San Diego Unified School District Graduation Requirements

For more information, please see:  http://old.sandi.net/depts/osss/grad_reqs_08.html

1.                   Course Credits:  44 semester credits are required for graduation.  Students are expected to meet the California State Standards in English, Mathematics, Science, History/social science, Visual, performing, and practical arts, and Physical Education.  The standards in some subjects exceed the “A – G” college admission requirements.

2.                   Grade-Point Average (GPA) - A GPA of 2.0 or higher in scholarship, computed on the basis of A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0, is required. A grade-point average for graduation is computed on courses completed in grades 9-12.

3.                   CAHSEE - All students must pass the California High School Exit Examination to receive a diploma in the State of California.  CAHSEE is aligned to the standards in English/Language Arts through grade 10 and Mathematics through Algebra 1-2.

4.                   Senior Exhibition - All graduating seniors are required to present a Senior Exhibition as part of their graduation requirements.  Information about exhibitions is available from individual school sites.

5.                   Computer Literacy - Students can fulfill this requirement in one of two ways: completion of a computer education course or completion of an approved course that incorporates computer education and computer applications.

6.                   Attendance - All students must attend 8 semesters in grades 9-12 for six periods daily unless the best interests of a student require a different plan.

7.                   Conduct - Each student must maintain a record of responsible citizenship. To participate in graduation ceremonies, students must meet a minimum standard of a 2.0 grade-point average in citizenship during the senior year.  The citizenship GPA is computed on a scale of E=4, G=3, S=2, N=1, U=0.

“A – G” College Admission Requirements

A student applying for admission as a freshman to University of California or California State University schools must have completed a minimum of 15 units of the “A - G” requirements during grades 9 through 12.  (A one-year course is equal to one unit; a one-semester course is equal to one-half unit.)  At least 7 of the 15 year-long courses must be taken in your last two years of high school.  If you will be applying for admission for fall 2012 or beyond, you must complete 11 of the 15 "A - G" courses by the end of your junior year.  For more information, please see: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/subject_reqs.html
