Course Descriptions:
PROBLEM BASED LEARNING
Christy MacCabe, Joe Quezada & Scott Schwerdtfeger
PBL is a learning environment where problems drive the learning. Learning begins with a problem to be solved. The problem is posed in such a way that the students need to gain knowledge before they can solve the problem. Rather than seeking a ingle correct answer students interpret the problem, gather needed information, identify possible solutions, evaluate options, and present conclusions.
DIFFERENTIATING THE MATH AND SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICLUM THROUGH THE USE OF ICONS OF DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY
Vikki Bolin, Gisella Giggleberger, Maureen Galindo
Participants will engage in a math lesson that incorporates the use of several math icons. In addition, participant will also have the opportunity to use similar strategies in social studies.
ICON, THEY CAN, CAN YOU?
Bonnie Elias, Tara Barber, Tricia Clark
A process using ICONS in Language Arts to help identify elements of depth and complexity (language of the discipline, details, patterns, trends, rules, unanswered questions, ethics, big ideas, over time, and point of view) so that students are able to examine content in more critical fashion.
DIMENSIONS OF DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY ACRESS THE CURRICULUM
Kathy Robertson, Shereen Bastani
An overview of ICONS; how ICONS enhance learning and challenge the gifted mind. Participants will gain insight as to how ICONS facilitate higher level thinking and increase student performance and productivity.
